RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A law against texting while driving moves ahead in the general assembly.

A senate committee sent the bill to the whole senate for a vote on Thursday.

The proposed law prohibits sending or reading text-messages while driving.

Violators could be fined 20 dollars for a first offense and 50 dollars for offenses after that.

The law would only apply to people pulled over for something else.
