APPOMATTOX, VA (NBC12) - Officials are trying to figure out what caused a massive pipeline explosion in Appomattox County.
It happened just before 7 a.m. Sunday morning, along Route 26, just north of the town of Appomattox.
The blast destroyed two homes and injured five people. About 50 others who lived in the area were evacuated the pipeline explosion was so powerful it left a crater in the ground.
People nearby heard it and saw it happen.
All the people who were injured in the blast are expected to survive.
