From NBC12 News

Two local colleges are partnering to tackle health care issues in the U.S. and they'll start by helping veterans.

Virginia Commonwealth University and William & Mary are pooling their health care and law resources to create a center for health policy and law.

The inititive is being housed at the Theater Row building on Broad Street in downtown Richmond. The pilot program will be a veterans disability clinic.

"There are approximately 728,000 veterans in Virginia, so the need for legal and psychological help is acute - and this clinic will be a step in the right direction," said William & Mary Interim President W. Taylor Reveley.

The clinic is slated to be up and running by January 2009.

Harvard and Yale Law School graduate Larry Palmer has been named director of the joint effort.
