Gas cost has summer travelers looking close to home

From NBC12 News

Soaring gas prices may not stop summer travel, but many people won't be traveling far away from home.

With the kickoff to the summer travel season just weeks away, local vacation spots are becoming more appealing.

The Virginia Tourism Corporation says people are looking for destinations where they can park and walk, such as Colonial Williamsburg.

Travelers don't have to look far to find deals and discounts online. Some hotels are offering booking incentives and gas cards.

"It never hurts to ask about what kinds of offers are out there because sometimes they come online in a big hurry in response to things because of these high gas prices," said Richard Lewis of the Virginia Tourism Corporation.

The Virginia Tourism Corporation has more information about summer travel offers on its Web site.
