(WWBT) - As Hurricane Florence continues to head towards the Carolinas and Virginia - now's the time to review your home insurance policy, if you haven't already.

Meteorologists have been talking about the possibility of historic flooding, which means you need to check your policy and see if you live in a flood zone. If you don't, find out whether your home qualifies for certain flood insurance.

Before a big storm hits, insurance experts also want you to take pictures of the inside and outside your home, including your garage. That way you have all the before picture, and you can tell what and where your stuff was located before a storm could do major damage.

Finally, you want to make copies of your insurance policy and other critical documents and store that in a waterproof container in your car.

Just think - if you're in the middle of a storm, and a tree falls on your home, or you have to evacuate your house due to flooding, the last thing you want to do is scramble to find your paperwork.
