VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (WWBT) - Five sea turtles were released Friday morning in Virginia Beach.
The turtles, named Captain, Drake, Honeysuckle, Poppy and Wisteria, were rehabilitated at Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center and released behind Neptune Park.
In a Facebook post, Virginia Aquarium described the turtles' various injuries as a fractured cranium, a fish hook in the esophagus, a partial fish hook lodged in the throat and potential shark bite. The aquarium also said Drake's heartbeat was so weak when he was found that it was initially not detected.
Drake is loggerhead turtle and the other four are Kemp's ridley sea turtles.
