NBC12/ RVA Sports Network Big 12- Week of August 27

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - After a big win over Hermitage to open the season, Highland Springs remains atop the NBC12/ RVA Sports Network Big 12 Poll. This is a weekly high school football poll, voted on by members of each organization. It is released every Monday during the season.

1) Highland Springs (1-0, was #1)- The Springers opened with authority, dominating Hermitage to the tune of a 67-0 score in a game that was never competitive. Next game: vs. Woodside, 8/31

2) Manchester (0-0, was #2)- Tom Hall and company return 38 seniors and 52 players from last year's state quarterfinal team, including Notre Dame QB commit Brendon Clark. Opener: vs. Riverbend, 8-31

3) Dinwiddie (1-0, was T3)- No issues on the surface for the Generals to open things up, putting up 70 points on Denbigh for the second straight year. Next game: @ Smithfield, 8/30

(4) Thomas Dale (1-0, was T3)- The Knights' balance was on display in a 38-0 opening win over Cosby, as the squad now turns its attention to L.C. Bird in the Battle of Chester. Next game: vs. L.C. Bird, 8/30

5) Monacan (1-0, was #5)- No apparent growing pains for new quarterback Stone Snyder, who threw for five touchdowns in the Chiefs' opening win against Hanover. Next game: @ Glen Allen, 8/30

6) Henrico (0-0, was #6)- Senior QB Jalon Jones returns to the Warriors after a season away, and Henrico looks to be in position to make some noise in a talented Capital District. Opener: vs Hermitage, 8/31

7) Varina (0-0, was #8)- Junior WR and DB Isiah Paige returns to the Blue Devils after missing last year with an injury, and head coach Stu Brown calls him the best athlete in the region. Opener: @ Meadowbrook, 8/31

8) L.C. Bird (1-0, was #7)- Junior running back Tre Mason rushed for 192 yards and the go-ahead touchdown in a 14-12 opening win over Meadowbrook, giving Troy Taylor his first victory as the Skyhawk's head coach. Next game: @ Thomas Dale, 8/30

9 Hopewell (1-0, was #10)- The Blue Devils overcame a slow start by the offense to top I.C. Norcom, 13-0, starting their state title defense off on the right foot. Next game: vs. Tabb, 8/30

10) Goochland (1-0, was #11)- Alex Fruth picked up his first victory as the Bulldogs' head coach, as Goochland held off a pesky Thomas Jefferson team, 14-7. Next game: vs. Fork Union, 8-31

11) Lee-Davis(0-0, was #12)- Quarterback Zach Lass returns for his third year as the starter, as the Confederates look for a fourth consecutive playoff appearance. Next game: vs. Mills Godwin, 8/30

12) Benedictine (0-0, was NR)- Quarterback Jay Woolfolk leads a Cadets squad into the season that is hungry after falling two wins shy of a state title a year ago. Next game: vs. St. John Paul the Great, 8/31
