HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - One person was wounded in a shooting Monday in Henrico County.

Henrico County police confirmed a shooting occurred in the 300 block of Newbridge Road.

Police said the victim was transported to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Kids could be found playing next to police tape as investigators search for answers.

"They told me they heard something in the hallway right here from the bottom. The bottom right." neighbor Charrissa Ford said.

Ford has lived in the apartment complex for six years. She says two people lived in the unit and believes it was a woman who was shot, whom she described as a good person.

Ford says everyone is like family, and many people in the area say they are sick of the increase in violence. Ford said she fears for her two children.

"This is becoming an ongoing thing, and I'm getting tired of it," Ford said. "I can't even let my kids come out here and play. They don't come outside without me, but I don't even want to come outside now."

As details remain limited about just what took place, friends and family are trying to figure out just what happened.

"What could she have done for all of this to go on?" Ford said. "Yellow tape? That must be serious."

Police have not released any information about a potential suspect and have not said what led to the shooting.
