Victims of Hopewell double murder identified

HOPEWELL, VA (WWBT) - Hopewell police have released the identifies of two men found dead Tuesday afternoon.

Joseph Darnell Wooden, 31, and Alexander Allen III, 23 were both killed just before 3 p.m. near the Davisville-Bland apartment community.

"A child ain't got no father. Brothers and sisters ain't got no sibling," an unidentified neighbor said concerned about violence.

As police tape marks the scene of the crime, a community assembled outside.

Trying to get through the crowd is a woman who can relate. On her way home from work, the scene outside one woman's door brought back a flood of memories. It was just seven months ago when police and crowds were gathered outside the same neighborhood after her son, 24-year-old Danzell Gholson was shot and killed.

"That's somebody's child. Senseless," the neighbor said.

On Ruth Harris Way, sources say Wooden and Allen were shot to death Tuesday afternoon.

"He didn't bother nobody. He was the coolest person in the world," the neighbor said. "At 20-something years old, you're just starting your life."

Police have not yet detailed the circumstances surrounding the double murder or any information on a suspect or motive. Sources say they do not believe there's a threat to the public.

"They're first cousins, so that family got two they have to bury," the neighbor said. "What if it was your child? What if it was your loved one?"

"I just want to move away," another neighbor added.
