RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Teachers looking for books for the upcoming school year don't have to go shopping.
Diversity Thrift is giving away thousands of free books to public school employees.
"You'd be a fool not to come down here if you hear about it," Luis Luna, a social studies teacher at Huguenot High School, said.
Diversity Thrift is overstocked with books, and any kind you can think of are available to be picked up.
"We saw this as an opportunity to help our local public school systems who might be in need of books to take the books that have been donated to Diversity Thrift and then recycle them through our public-school library," said Executive Director of Diversity Richmond Bill Harrison. "Everything from cookbooks to fiction and nonfiction to health to science, you name it the book is here."
The goal is to give teachers access to more resources to help their students.
"With something like this where its free, who's not going to come to something that's free and this is amazing," Luna said.
And there's no limit to how many books you can take home.
"They got tons of books here," Luna said. "It's phenomenal really, and I really appreciate it and I know my students will appreciate it too."
Beginning Wednesday, books will be offered to the public for 5 cents. The free give away will continue through noon Saturday, Aug. 25th.
To qualify for the giveaway, public school employees must show school identification.
Diversity Thrift is located at 1407 Sherwood Avenue.
