NBC12/ RVA Sports Network Big 12 Preseason Poll

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Three-time defending state champion Highland Springs headlines the NBC12/ RVA Sports Network Preseason Poll. This is a weekly high school football poll, voted on by members of each organization. It is released every Monday during the season.

1) Highland Springs- The Springers defend their state championship once again, and are 42-3 during the last three seasons. Opener: @ Hermitage, 8/24

2) Manchester- Tom Hall and company return 38 seniors and 52 players from last year's state quarterfinal team, including Notre Dame QB commit Brendon Clark. Opener: vs. Riverbend, 8-31

T3) Dinwiddie- QB Ky'mon Pope leads a Generals team that lost 15 starters from last season's 12-1 team. Opener: @ Denbigh, 8/23

T3) Thomas Dale- Experience and depth on both sides of the ball give the Knights high hopes for 2018. Opener: @ Cosby, 8/24

5) Monacan- Despite losing some big names, the Chiefs have a lot of players back from last year's 11-1 squad, and new QB Stone Snyder brings multi-dimensional play to the position. Opener: vs. Hanover, 8/24

6) Henrico- Senior QB Jalon Jones returns to the Warriors after a season away, and Henrico looks to be in position to make some noise in a talented Capital District. Opener: vs Hermitage, 8/31

7) L.C. Bird- Troy Taylor returns to his alma mater to take over as head coach, as the Skyhawks come off a four loss season for the first time since the 1990's. Opener: vs. Meadowbrook, 8/23

8) Varina- Junior WR and DB Isiah Paige returns to the Blue Devils after missing last year with an injury, and head coach Stu Brown calls him the best athlete in the region. Opener: @ Meadowbrook, 8/31

9) Hermitage- The Derrick Johnson era kicks off after 17 years of Patrick Kane at the helm. Opener: vs. Highland Springs, 8/24

10) Hopewell- The Blue Devils lost some key skill players, but have plenty back from last year's state championship team. Opener: @ I.C. Norcom, 8/24

11) Goochland- Alex Fruth takes over as head coach and looks to continue one of the best stretches in the area. The Bulldogs have made the playoffs every year since 2004. Opener: vs. Thomas Jefferson, 8/24

12) Lee-Davis- Quarterback Zach Lass returns for his third year as the starter, as the Confederates look for a fourth consecutive playoff appearance. Opener: vs. Mills Godwin, 8/30
