HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - A Richmond man was arrested Wednesday at the Richmond International Airport after being caught with a loaded handgun.
While scanning his carry-on bag, a Transportation Security Administration officer found a .25 caliber handgun that was loaded with eight bullets inside.
TSA notified airport police, who confiscated the gun and arrested the man.
This is the eighth firearm catch by TSA officers at the airport this year. Last year, a total of 18 guns were caught at checkpoints.
Airport officials remind individuals that anyone who bring weapons to checkpoints can face up to $13,000 in federal civil penalties. It applies whether or not travelers have concealed carry permits.
Passengers are allowed to travel with firearms in checked baggage if properly stored and declared.
