Deputies bust driver, passenger for drugs during traffic stop

STAFFORD, VA (WWBT) - The driver and passenger of a vehicle facing drug charges after a sergeant with the Stafford County Sheriff's Office found drugs on them during a traffic stop.

Last Friday, the sergeant pulled a vehicle over around 8:36 p.m. for a defective brake light at the intersection of Warrenton Road and South Gateway Drive. He also noted neither the driver nor passenger were wearing a seatbelt.

During the stop, he detected a strong smell of marijuana.

The sergeant found several pills and a substance consistent with marijuana on Brandy Fitzgerald, 29, of Stafford, during a search. A white powdery residue on an object was found on David Martin, Jr., 28, of Fredericksburg.

When searching the car, more pills in an envelope addressed to Fitzgerald was found.

Fitzgerald was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. He was later released.

Martin was arrested and put in jail on a secured bond. He's charged with possession of a controlled substance.

They both received a summons for no seatbelt.
