RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - June is Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month, and the Richmond Sheriff's Office spreading the word about Project Lifesaver.

The program provides those with mental dysfunction, including Alzheimer's an electronic device that is used to track them in the case they wander away from their homes.

The transmitters are placed on the person's body and help caregivers and emergency workers locate them.

Currently 23 people in Richmond have the devices and the sheriff's office wants to expand the program to help more people in need.

For information about the program, call (804) 514-2782 or email alexis.carey@richmond.gov.
