RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A former Virginia sheriff's deputy who also worked as a Washington, D.C., police officer is facing sentencing on federal charges of illegally dealing in firearms.
Fifty-one-year-old Richard S. Wince was to be sentenced Monday in Richmond after pleading guilty to dealing firearms without a license.
Prosecutors are asking for 12 to 18 months in prison. The defense is asking for probation.
Prosecutors say Wince bought, sold and traded several firearms from October 2015 to April 2017. According to court documents, some of the guns have been tied to convicted felons and crimes, including a murder. Another was used in a suicide.
Wince spent 20 years in the Navy as a military police officer before joining the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Department and later working for the Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Department.
