CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Some residents in Chesterfield are dropping hundreds of dollars just one week before Christmas but not on presents. They are now dealing with car repairs after vandals hit the Settlers Landing neighborhood.
Police believe the vandals used BB guns to shatter the glass on people's cars.
One man said he takes care of his wife who's suffering from Alzheimer's and would naturally rather focus on that, than car repairs.
Meanwhile, another man thought he was done with his car payments, but now he's gearing up to drop some cash again.
Andrew Young just paid off his first car, and now with just a week before Christmas, he's dealing with this.
"I found my window broken, shattered but still intact but a spot where a BB hit it. Then there was, along with that, two shots in the body of the car," said Young.
Andrew spotted the damage Friday morning near Greenfield Elementary on Savoy Road.
"I immediately called police because I thought it just happened to me," said Young.
But it turns out Young isn't the only victim.
Not only did Young's 80-year-old neighbor drop hundreds to replace his busted windshield, but others in the community have also posted similar complaints online through an app called Nextdoor.
The most recent one went up Sunday morning.
The post says the vandals hit the majority of cars along Savoy near Old Indian road. Chesterfield police say there were about eight cars hit, but nothing was stolen.
"I was thinking, 'Who's targeting me?' but I figured it wasn't just me. So it's someone that wants to mess with everyone, I guess," said Young.
Young says he hopes someone will step forward and foot the bill.
"But I might have to do it myself," said Young.
