Police arrest suspect in 2016 Chesterfield Econo Lodge murder

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Chesterfield Police have charged a man with murder more than a year after a clerk was killed at an Econo Lodge.
The suspect, 21-year-old Jamal Washington, is charged with first-degree murder, robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a robbery in the death of 43-year-old Jerry Colyer.
Police say Washington entered the Econo Lodge at 2310 Indian Hill Road on Sept. 29, 2016. He then pulled out a gun and robbed the business. After getting the money, Washington shot Colyer at point-blank range.
Colyer died at the scene. The shooting prompted the FBI to offer a $20,000 reward for information about the shooter.
