Heavy traffic expected near RIR for NASCAR weekend

HENRICO/HANOVER, VA (WWBT) - NASCAR is back in Central Virginia, which means traffic congestion in Eastern Henrico and the Mechanicsville area.

Here's what you need to know:

  • style="text-align: justify;">Saturday, April 29, 1 p.m. - Xfinity Series - Traffic will be congested on Meadowbridge Road all day, with the most traffic between mid-morning and late evening (before and after the race)
  • style="text-align: justify;">Sunday, April 30, 2 p.m. - NASCAR Sprint Cup Series - Traffic will be congested on Meadowbridge Road all day, with the most traffic between mid-morning and late evening (before and after the race)

For drivers traveling along Interstate 295, it is best to use the Route 301 (Chamberlayne Road) or the Route 360 (Mechanicsville Turnpike) exits.

On Sunday, the Hanover County Sheriff's Office will have deputies stationed at each intersection on Meadowbridge Road to monitor traffic flow.
