Baby ducks, geese rescued from Great Shiplock Park

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Richmond Animal Care and Control Officers have been rescuing baby ducks and Canadian geese out of the lock in the Great Shiplock Park for the past few days.

"The parent ducks and geese can fly in and out, but once the babies fall in, they are stuck," the organization said on Facebook. "The babies then panic and tire themselves to the point of no return."

The Department of Public Utilities came up with the solution by draping a heavy mesh net along the lock, which allows the babies "to rest and climb out to freedom."
