DMV: 39 pedestrian fatalities statewide in 2017

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) shared some statistics on pedestrian fatalities across Virginia after learning about Sunday night's pedestrian fatality in Henrico.

  • 2015 – 78 pedestrian fatalities statewide (0.21 deaths per day)
  • 2016 – 121 pedestrian fatalities statewide (0.33 deaths per day)
  • 2017 – 39 pedestrian fatalities so far statewide (0.34 deaths per day)

This comes after a man was killed along Patterson Avenue, near Gaskins Road, around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a man lying in the road.

He was rushed to VCU Medical Center where he later died.
