Highland Springs students mourn classmate who died over spring break

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Students at Highland Springs High School in Henrico are returning to class from spring break and are mourning the loss of a classmate.

The school is taking steps on Monday to help students cope with the loss of DaJanae White, 14, who died in a car crash in the 2900 block of Darbytown Road just after 4 a.m. on Thursday.

Police say the vehicle's driver was a 35-year-old woman.

Officers said the other passengers were two 11-year-old boys, a 15-year-old boy, and a 16-year-old girl.

According to a source, two of the juveniles injured in the crash are brothers. One attended Rolfe Middle School and the other attended Ward Elementary School.

Sources say the other two juveniles did not attend Henrico schools.

Henrico police say the department is working with the Henrico school system to coordinate assistance for counselors at Highland Springs after spring break.  The family will receive friends on Monday at Scott's Chapel, located at 116 E. Brookland Park Blvd. from 6 to 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at Scott's Chapel on Tuesday at 1 p.m. The interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
