VDOT to improve Temple Avenue, I-95 interchange in Colonial Heights
COLONIAL HEIGHTS, VA (WWBT) - Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews are working on grading, curb work, and new pavement along Temple Avenue in Colonial Heights to improve the Interstate 95/Temple Avenue interchange.
"The project will replace the existing interchange with a roundabout and extend the interstate ramps to improve safety and smooth traffic flow," VDOT said.
From April 3 to April 6, crews will be installing pavement markings and moving barriers to complete the traffic shift, which will start on Friday, April 7. Westbound traffic on Temple Avenue will be shifted to the left of the current travel lanes. VDOT crews say the traffic will not shift eastbound traffic.
Here is the list of lane closures:
Monday, April 3
- style="margin-bottom: 11.25pt; line-height: 12pt; background: white;">Temple Ave./Route 144 east – The right lane will be closed 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. from Hamilton Ave. to the I-95 ramps for overhead sign foundation work.
Tuesday, April 4
- style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; background: white;">Temple Ave./Route 144 east – The right lane will be closed 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. from Hamilton Ave. to the I-95 ramps for overhead sign foundation work.
Wednesday, April 5
- style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; background: white;">Temple Ave./Route 144 east/west – Alternating lanes will be closed 8 p.m. Wednesday-6 a.m. Thursday from Hamilton Avenue to the I-95 ramps in preparation for the upcoming traffic shift.
Thursday, April 6
- style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; background: white;">Temple Ave./Route 144 east/west – Alternating lanes will be closed 8 p.m. Thursday-6 a.m. Friday from Hamilton Avenue to the I-95 ramps in preparation for the upcoming traffic shift.
Friday, April 7
- style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; background: white;">Weather permitting, traffic heading west on Temple Ave./Route 144 will use the new travel lanes. Eastbound traffic will remain unaffected.
"Drivers are encouraged to use caution and follow the signs and pavement markings through the new travel pattern," VDOT said.
