PRINCE GEORGE, VA (WWBT) - One lane of northbound I-95 was closed for several hours Wednesday in Prince George after a dump truck got stuck under a bridge.
The incident near South Crater Road at mile marker 44 caused traffic to be backed up for several miles until about 2:45 p.m.
The Virginia Department of Transportation says the bridge, which carries about 800 vehicles per day, will remain closed as repairs are made.
"VDOT crews conducted an immediate structural inspection and found damage to the exterior beam," VDOT said in a news release.
Drivers who use Garys Church Road are urged to use the posted detour until the bridge reopens: take Crater Road (Route 301) to the frontage road, F124, back to Garys Church Road (Route 608).
