Mike Rhoades becomes new head coach of VCU Men's Basketball

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - VCU Athletics introduced Mike Rhoades as the new head coach of the men's basketball team on at the Siegel Center on Wednesday.

When Rhoades was introduced he said it's a dream come true to be the head coach at VCU for him and his family.

Before the press conference, Rhoades and Joey Rodriguez were waiting in the wings.

Rhoades and his family seemed very emotional when they took the stage at the Siegel Center.

Rhoades is coming from Rice University in Houston, where he was the head coach of their basketball team for the past three seasons. Rodriguez worked with Rhoades at Rice, and he also played at VCU and led them to the Final Four in 2011.

Before taking the job at Rice, Rhoades served as a VCU assistant from 2009 to 2014 under then head coach Shaka Smart.
