Demolition begins for concrete Sugar Pad at Rockett's Landing

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Demolition begins on Monday for the concrete Sugar Pad at Rockett's Landing.

The 4-foot concrete foundation is being removed to make way for a refurbished Terminal Dock, including park space and riverfront access for the public.

City officials say a community meeting will be scheduled soon to get public feedback on the design.

This second phase of the work is part of the Riverfront Master Plan and is expected to be completed by June.

Officials say they will schedule another community meeting to present design options for the Terminal Dock and Lehigh Property, which is the third phase of the project. "The improvements at both the Terminal Dock and Lehigh properties are expected to provide public park space and public riverfront access," city officials report.

When the work is completed, city officials say the dock will be ready to receive cruise ship traffic.

The project's budget of $2,944,318 is being funded with Capital Improvement funding, according to city officials.
