RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Richmond police say that Bryant C. Bogle, 33, died after a shooting Monday night in the 3100 block of Carolina Avenue.

Officers arrived on the scene just before 10 p.m. and found Bogle, of Henrico, on the sidewalk with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Bogle's death is the 61st homicide in Richmond in 2016. The city is nearing its highest homicide total in a decade.

Earlier this week, Richmond Police Chief Alfred Durham said that illegal firearms are involved in many of this year's homicides.

Durham stressed that residents can report illegal firearms though the city's "Gun 250" program and could earn a reward of up to $250 should the information lead to the recovery of an illegal firearm and/or arrest of an offender.
