Off-duty Richmond sheriff's deputy hit by vehicle

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - An off-duty Richmond Sheriff's Deputy was hit by a vehicle Saturday around 6 p.m. in the parking lot of the Lowe's Home Improvement store located on 1640 West Broad Street.
Police say the officer was at the store working in a security capacity when he spotted a male suspect shoplifting. He approached the man and was able to take the merchandise, but the suspect then got into a vehicle driven by another man who hit the officer with the vehicle.
The deputy was treated on the scene for a minor injury.
Police found the vehicle abandoned nearby.
