Petition claims victory in Radford fraternity goat case

RADFORD, VA (WWBT) - An online petition to "Free the Radford Frat goat" is claiming victory after suspensions of four houses in connection with the case.

The petition reads, "it is highly suspected that the goat is being raised by pledges in order for them to then kill it as an initiation into the fraternity." As Radford University has now placed four fraternities on interim suspension after investigating claims a juvenile goat had been abused, the petition was closed and the organizers were declaring victory.

While notices were given to Delta Chi, Sigma Pi, Lambda Phi and Alpha Sigma Phi, the animal's whereabouts remain a mystery to Radford City and campus Police.

The investigation follows claims from a post via the "Goats of Anarchy" Instagram account. It referred over the weekend to abuse of the goat but didn't name the fraternities.

The online petition, started by a woman who appears to live outside Virginia and signed by many people outside the state, calls for the goat to be freed. "Goats of Anarchy," is reportedly tied to a New Jersey-based nonprofit that rescues and rehabilitates abandoned and abused goats.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the animal, or facts regarding the alleged mistreatment, is asked to contact RUPD at 540-831-5500 or the RUPD Crimestoppers Anonymous Tip Line: 540-831-STOP.
