HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - A Henrico man who faced a child abuse and homicide charge after his infant daughter died in January has been found not guilty.
Diquan Burns says he rushed his daughter to the hospital following an incident at his home. Burns' father says his son was trying to pick up the child when the infant somehow suffered a significant injury.
According to relatives, Trinitie was in her father's home in Varina. The father says he heard the baby crying so he went to check on her and found the family's dog near her face. That's when he says he went to grab her out of her swing, and her head hit the swing. Trinitie's mother arrived later that night and says the baby had a knot on her head and was unresponsive.
Trinitie Burns died at VCU Medical Center after heavy bleeding and suffering a skull fracture.
"He was a good dad. I never seen a young man that cared about a baby like he did. He has her stuff upstairs all in place. He loved that baby," said Charles Burns, the baby's grandfather.
