CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - A Richmond father calls 12 On Your Side claiming his 2-year-old daughter was attacked by a rooster at the Metro Richmond Zoo.

"All she keeps talking about is the rooster attacking her," said Charles Sherman.

Charles Sherman says a rooster attacked his 2-year-old daughter, Chloe.

"It cut her face ... her stomach ... her arms," said Sherman.

Dad says he was heartbroken when he saw the pictures. This all happened on an outing with Chloe's grandmother.

"I just don't want something like that to happen to anybody else," said Sherman. "We had the hospital tell us that we are very lucky that it did not reach her eye."

The zoo director says they immediately provided first aid to Chloe. He says they put Neosporin on the scratches and provided Band-Aids. The director released the following statement:

This is an unfortunate incident. We never want any of our guests to have a negative experience especially a young child. Our goal here is to bring people close to nature and for them to have positive experiences with animals. We immediately removed that rooster, and he is no longer on premises at the zoo. He is living his life out on a farm in Amelia.
