Hanover Sheriff: Man assaulted two deputies, steals vehicle in getaway

HANOVER, VA (WWBT) - Hanover deputies say they are searching for a man who assaulted two of their own, then took off in a stolen vehicle on Friday.

It happened around 10:49 a.m. on Mechanicsville Turnpike near I-295. Deputies say they pulled over 34-year-old Marcus Darrell Wright for a traffic violation. He then became combative and assaulted two deputies before running off towards I-295.

Deputies say a driver had pulled over to the shoulder on I-295 and was outside his vehicle when Wright jumped in and took off. The vehicle was later found abandoned in Essex County.

The deputies in the attack suffered minor injuries.

Wright is now wanted for:Two counts of Assault on Law Enforcement, Eluding, Reckless driving, Unauthorized use of a Vehicle, Larceny and Possession of Marijuana.
