CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Chesterfield Fire and HAZMAT crews were dispatched along Jefferson Davis Highway Thursday evening after traces of petroleum were found in a creek.

According to crews on scene, small traces of petroleum found its way into Grindall Creek near the 5000 block of Jefferson Davis Highway.

Those crews have deployed buoys into the water to contain the petroleum in the creek, but they stress there is no threat to public safety.

Chesterfield HAZMAT crews went on to say if they were unable to find the source of the petroleum this evening, the buoys would be left in the creek overnight and they will return tomorrow morning and reassess the situation.
