Amtrak suspends service; flights canceled as Matthew approaches U.S.

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - As Hurricane Matthew bears down on portions of the Caribbean and sets its sights on the Southeastern coastline, Amtrak is suspending some services in portions of the southern U.S.

According to Amtrak, the following services will be canceled both Thursday and Friday as Matthew moves along Florida's eastern shoreline:

  • Silver Star 91 & 92 (New York City - Miami)
  • Silver Meteor 97 & 98 (Miami - New York City)
  • Auto Train 52 & 53 (Lorton, Va., - Sanford, Fla.)

Amtrak officials said no alternative transportation will be provided for the canceled rail services. They went on to say that the Palmetto 89 and 90 (New York City – Savannah, Ga.) will only operate between New York City and Washington, D.C.

At Richmond International Airport, flights to Orlando and Fort Lauderdale on Thursday were canceled, as well as an arriving flight from Orlando. Click here to check out up-to-date information on flights.
