Richmond Police investigates city's 44th homicide of 2016

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Police have identified the man killed in a Friday shooting in the city's Southside. This shooting pushes the city's homicide total to 44.

Officers found Jarod Buford, 22, of Petersburg, suffering from a gunshot wound in the 4400 block of Midlothian Turnpike near Swansboro Elementary School just before 6 p.m.

Police say he was taken to the hospital where he later died.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death. Police are still investigating.
