CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Chesterfield Police are searching for a person who attempted to abduct a 7-year-old in Stone Harbor Drive, just off Robious Road, on Monday.
Police say the victim was walking on a sidewalk around 7:10 p.m. when a vehicle stopped on the road next to her. An adult male exited the vehicle and walked into her path and picked her up.
Police say the victim kicked the suspect, who dropped her to the ground, and returned to his vehicle.
"Sounds like those parents did a great job educating their child," said L. Robert Bolling.
Bolling, CEO of the child advocacy group, Child Savers, says a conversation about strangers is one every parent should have with their child, regardless of their child's age.
"The important thing to remember is not all strangers are bad, but some strangers can be threatening," said Bolling. "If a stranger tries to approach you - you can scream. You can yell you can makes sounds."
Her mom says the child is okay, but she wants to spread the word someone is targeting children.
The suspect is described as an older, tall white male with a thin build. He had messy brown and gray hair and wrinkles, and he was wearing a button-down shirt. The suspect's vehicle is described as an older model, brown and/or yellow, four-door vehicle with a dent in the driver's side door.
Anyone with information should contact the Chesterfield County Police Department at (804) 748-1251.
Police are also reminding parents to warn their children about the dangers of talking to strangers:
NBC12's Susan Bahorich is on the scene and will have an update from the victim's family at 5.
