Funeral arrangements made for civil rights leader, broadcaster Jack Gravely

PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) - Funeral arrangements have been announced for late civil rights leader and veteran broadcaster Jack Gravely, who passed away on Monday.

A service will be held on Saturday, August 20 at 2 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Baptist Church, located at 2223 South Crater Road in Petersburg. The service will be officiated by Bishop Jeffery L. Reaves, Sr., pastor.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday. August 19 at Good Sheppard Baptist Church.

Gravely was a longtime member of the Tri-Cities church, serving as a deacon in the ministry.

Following the Saturday service, Gravely will be buried at Southlawn Memorial Park in neighboring Prince George.

He was well known as the longtime host of "The Jack Gravely Show," which aired weekdays on Rejoice 990AM. Gravely also served as executive director of the Virginia chapter of the NAACP, but he resigned last month, saying the organization had moved too slowly after recent officer-involved shootings.

Gravely tragically died of a heart attack Monday after a battle with cancer.
