CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - As thunderstorms popped up around the Metro-Richmond area, the cells produced intense and frequent lightning, which is the suspected cause of a house fire in Chesterfield Wednesday evening.
According to Chesterfield Fire officials, the bolt hit the home along Pineridge Lane near Courthouse Road around 9 p.m. Wednesday.
The resulting fire was small and officials reported the family living in the home was not injured.
Wednesday's storm also caused power outages around the Commonwealth, with Dominion Virginia Power reporting a majority of those outages in the Northern Virginia area, where some of the strongest storms moved through.
At the height of the outages, over 23,000 customers were without power.
