Three men behind bars after Richmond robbery ends in shooting

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Three men are in police custody after a Monday morning robbery in Richmond's Northside community of Highland Park ended with a man being wounded by gunfire.

According to Richmond Police, 19-year-old Martez D. Sweeden and 18-year-old Adaam I. Ali were arrested and 20-year-old Davonte S. Stovell turned himself over to authorities for their role in an August 1 robbery that ended in a shooting.

Police were called to the 1900 block of 4th Avenue in reference to a robbery on August 1 around 12:30 a.m. One of the three victims reported to police that two males attempted to rob his friends and him. A struggle ensued between one of the victims and an armed suspect and a shot was fired.

A short time later, a man suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the hand came into the emergency room at VCU Medical Center.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit and Fourth Precinct responded to the scene and the hospital, interviewed individuals matching the robbery suspect descriptions and subsequently arrested Sweeden and Ali.

Sweeden is charged with robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, Ali is charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and Stovell is charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.
