RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A mom says her teen was plagued for months by a bizarre illness that no one could diagnose. Her daughter was too weak to go to school, too sick to even swallow food.
It turns out the source of her sickness was hiding in plain sight.
With blisters and lesions around and inside her mouth, 15-year-old Kennedy Odom was in constant pain.
The family soon realized the source of Kennedy's problems may have been staring them in the face - the metal in her mouth. Both she and her mom got braces last February. Kennedy's health problems started soon after.
It wasn't until doctors zeroed in on the braces that they discovered Kennedy has a nickel allergy.
