Who is Wang, the billionaire behind the McAuliffe FBI investigation?

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - It's no secret Gov. Terry McAuliffe has close ties to Hillary Clinton as he pushes her presidential campaign across the Commonwealth.

The FBI probe could continue the public perception of secrecy surrounding her campaign.

The very man who is at the heart of the FBI investigation for giving the governor money is also known to have given $2 million to the Clinton Foundation.

So, who is Wang Wenliang?

The self-made billionaire is worth $1.05 billion, according to Forbes.

He's been noted as a shadowy billionaire – quietly donating money to causes throughout the years. He essentially owns the main port for transporting goods in northeast China.

His companies in the U.S. launch joint ventures, including construction and shipping. He has given substantial amounts of money to Harvard and NYU and built the Chinese embassy in D.C.

He also has ties to another governor who lived in the governor's mansion – years ago, former Gov. Bob McDonnell made a deal with Wang Wenliang's company to export soybeans from Virginia.

McDonnell has been convicted of public corruption, stemming from gifts given to him during his time in office, and is awaiting a ruling from the Supreme Court on his case. Now the FBI is looking into similar accusations against the Commonwealth's current governor.
