ASHLAND, VA (WWBT) - A pet rescue and adoption facility in Ashland won an Animal Pet contest to get major funding for renovations.

Bandit's Adoption and Rescue of K-9s (BARK) won the $180,000 grand prize.

On the Animal Planet's Pet Nation Renovation website, BARK said it would use the money for central air for the animals, facility repairs, a dedicated quarantine area for pets and restrooms.

Winning the contest would "definitely be a game changer," BARK said in a Facebook post last month.

In a nomination video, volunteers said that BARK helps about 300 animals per year and relies on about 100 volunteers.

BARK was up against four other facilities.
