RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Dozens of pro-life activists gathered outside of Planned Parenthood on Hamilton Street Saturday. Protestors chanted and spoke out calling for Planned Parenthood to be defunded.
The activists say more than 20 clinics closed around the U.S. in the wake of the national protests that happened last year. Now they say they hope it becomes a trend.
Proponents of Planned Parenthood say women deserve the right to choose what happens to their bodies.
"We at Planned Parenthood are doctors, and patients and staff are coming here to make sure women receive high-quality care and they should be able to receive that care without harassment or intimidation," said Cianti Stewart-Reid, executive director of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia.
"I used to be pro-choice. I used to be the one out there, 'Don't you ever take my choice away,' and it's because I was not being honest," said protest organizer Leslie Blackwell. "If you're really pro-choice you're pro what? Pro killing babies? Let's say what it is."
The protest was one of over 200 that happened nationwide.
