Inmate who escaped Staunton jail caught in New York

AUGUSTA, VA (WWBT) - Melissa Dawn Johnson, an inmate who escaped from Middle River Regional Jail in Staunton, was arrested on Tuesday, NBC29 reports.

Johnson was arrested by police in Greece, New York, and the extradition process is currently underway.

According to NBC 29 in Charlottesville, 44-year-old Melissa Dawn Johnson clocked in at her job in the eastern part of Augusta County on Saturday, but once 5 p.m. rolled around, Johnson was nowhere to be found.

Jail staff were immediately notified and officials attempted to find her through GPS monitoring.
