RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The U.S. Marshals have a warning about Lawrence Jerome Fitzgerald, and he's considered extremely dangerous. Fitzgerald is wanted on multiple charges ranging from assaulting a police officer to drug distribution. We're talking about a felon who's been on the run for more than a year, and the Marshals hope you can help bring him to justice.
In February of 2014, U.S. Marshals say Lawrence Fitzgerald led police on a dramatic chase through Hanover county. "It was a routine traffic stop that ended up in a high-speed pursuit at 160 miles per hours down the road until he rammed a state police vehicle and then fled on foot," said U.S. Marshal Brian Stalnaker.
He was eventually tracked with a K-9 and arrested but was released on bond. "Later on in 2014 in August, he was arrested in Richmond city while on bond still in Hanover," Stalnaker said.
This time, Fitzgerald was picked up for drug distribution and again released on bond. Investigators say that's when he completely disappeared off their radar. "He cut his leg bracelet off and basically told his mother to call Hanover and tell them to come get the equipment, he wasn't going to be caught," Stalnaker said.
Fitzgerald is a known gang member with a long rap sheet. Investigators believe he is still in the Richmond area. "We do know he has ties to Mosby court, the Southside of Richmond, Fairfield court in Richmond."
Fitzgerald has multiple gang-related tattoos on both arms, his back, and abdomen. You can call their 24-hour tip line at 1-877-926-8332.
