Massive brush fire breaks out in Charles City County

CHARLES CITY, VA (WWBT) - Crews were on the scene of a large brush fire in Charles City County.

About 180 to 200 acres were on fire around 3 p.m. in a wooded area off of Little Elam Road.

There were no injuries, and no houses or power lines were damaged, according to officials.

Six crews responded to the scene: Charles City, New Kent, James City, Henrico, Hanover, and the Virginia Dept. of Forestry, which had three bulldozers.

In total, it took 47 firefighters and 20 fire trucks to extinguish the brush fire.

No word on what caused the brush fire.
