Henrico man training to break World Record for 'burpees'

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Josiah Beasley has been training for weeks in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most burpees in an hour.

A burpee is a plyometric exercise that involves you to stand, then drop down into a push-up position and then jump back up.

"It is extremely difficult. The first couple of days in my training my back was so tight. I couldn't bend over to wash my hands in the sink," said Beasley.

The current record for the most burpees (or para jumps) in one hour is 1,840, set by Paddy Doyle (UK) at the Bull´s Head, Polesworth, Birmingham, UK in 1994.

Beasley is aiming for 2,000 burpees in an hour but will be content with 1,860.

The record attempt will be held on May 28 at Golds Gym located at 8904 West Broad Street.
