Ashland animal shelter a finalist for $180,000 Animal Planet prize

ASHLAND, VA (WWBT) - A pet rescue and adoption facility in Ashland is a finalist in an Animal Pet contest to get major funding for renovations.

Bandit's Adoption and Rescue of K-9s (BARK) is in the running against four other facilities for a $180,000 grand prize.

On the Animal Planet's Pet Nation Renovation website, BARK says it would use the money for central air for the animals, facility repairs, a dedicated quarantine area for pets and restrooms.

Winning the contest would "definitely be a game changer," BARK said in a Facebook post this week.

In a nomination video, volunteers say that BARK helps about 300 animals per year and relies on about 100 volunteers.
