CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - If you sell items through sites such as Craigslist, the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office now has a safe place for you to make a transaction.

The Sheriff's Office dedicated three parking spaces at the main courthouse (9500 Courthouse Road) as a "Safe Exchange Zone" this week.

A Facebook post about the safe zone was shared more than 3,500 times in less than 24 hours.

"The Safe Exchange Zone is for the public to conduct face to face online sales, child custody exchanges or meetings where one feels the need for recorded video surveillance," the Sheriff's Office said in the post.

Other law enforcement agencies have set up similar spots recently. In November, the Petersburg Sheriff's Office also set up an exchange zone "to minimize the opportunity for an encounter to go wrong."
