PULASKI, VA (WWBT) - A judge found a Virginia mother guilty on three felony counts of child neglect and abuse on Friday in connection with the death of her 5-year-old son.

Noah Thomas was reported missing in March 2015, launching a massive search near his Dublin home. He was found dead in a septic tank days later.

During the trial, prosecutors said Noah's mother, Ashley White, decided to leave the boy and his 6-month-old sister home alone twice the day he went missing, according to the Roanoke Times. Commonwealth's Attorneys said she left the children unattended to drive her boyfriend to work and during a nap later that day.

White's lawyer argued his client couldn't be found guilty for simply falling asleep and couldn't have known she was putting her child in danger.

White was charged with homicide, but the charges were reduced before they went to the grand jury. Noah's father, Paul Thomas, faces child abuse and neglect charges in the case. His trial is scheduled for next month.
