Richmond sees decline in new HIV, AIDS cases

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The Richmond City Health District reports that the number of new HIV and AIDS cases continued to decline in 2015.

Preliminary data shows there were 72 newly diagnosed HIV cases last year, compared to 81 in 2014 and 102 in 2007. There were 13 new AIDS cases reported in 2015, compared to 31 in 2014 and 91 in 2007.

Despite the decrease, Richmond's HIV and AIDS rate is still the highest in Virginia. There are more than 2,300 people in Richmond living with HIV and AIDS.
